Knee micro fracture surgery is a procedure performed in order to rectify a damaged knee cartilage. Cartilages cover the area where bones meet together forming joints. The procedure is performed arthroscopically under regional and general anesthesia. The procedure involves making very small holes in the bones ( micro-fractures) near the damaged cartilage. These holes release cells . The cells actively build a new cartilage that replace the old damaged tissue. The procedure is done in order to prevent further damage to the cartilage. Before the procedure, you may have to stop medications that make blood clotting harder. Other complications like diabetes, heart disease have to be brought under control. Stop smoking and drinking. After the surgery, physical therapy has to be started and continued for 6 months for best results.
