Ankle Arthritis
Ankle arthritis is generally a chronic clinical condition in which the ankle joint has a damaged or worn out cartilage. The ankle joint has three bones and arthritis can involve all the three bones. The condition is accompanied by swelling and pain. Certain emergencies like the ankle locking because of a piece of bone getting trapped, require immediate attention to prevent further damage to cartilage. Infectious arthritis though not common, requires immediate evaluation. Treatment methods depend on varied factors like age, weight, nature of job and the overall health of the patient. Since it affects the way a person walks, the condition consumes more energy, causing a feeling of fatigue. Imaging tests help identify the condition. Physical therapy , braces and anti-inflammatory medications may help to gain relief. Surgical treatment is the last recourse.
