Dislocation

Recurrent dislocation-stabilization

As the most moveable body in the joint, the shoulder can help you lift your arm, rotate it and reach above your head. It so happens that the head of the upper arm bone is wedged out of the socket causing shoulder dislocation. Causes can be attributed to sudden injury or overuse which makes the shoulder vulnerable to repeated episodes of dislocation. This condition is called recurrent shoulder dislocation.

RECURENCE:

If the first time dislocation happens before the age of 20 years, the dislocation can recur in 90% of times. This can be disabling for younger persons. Hence stabilisation surgery is adviced for these persons. Consult your shoulder specialist for further advice.

Arthroscopic Stabilization surgery

In an arthroscopic stabilization surgery, the overstretched or torn labrum is repaired with the help of an arthroscopic surgery or ?keyhole surgery ?. The procedure involves tightening the torn labrum and ligaments using small bone anchors.

Post Procedure

Usually a day care procedure. Can go home with in 24 hours in an arm sling. The arm movements will be restricted in few directions for next 4-6 weeks to allow the repaired tissue to heal.

Specialist will guide you to recover to optimal level step by step. In 6 weeks time one can resume normal movements and in about 5-6 months one can return to active sports level.
